SOCIAL HOUSING IN PEUNAGA PASI, INDONESIA
Peunaga Pasi is one of the towns in the subdistrict of Aceh Barat that was completely destroyed by the tsunami on the 26th of December 2004.
This meant that AVS (Spanish Association of Public Developers of Housing and Land) selected the site to develop a comprehensive project that would cover all the basic phases required to develop a sustainable future.
Peunaga Pasi is located close to Meulaboh, a small city about 8km from the town. The project consisted of constructing 82 properties (for some 300 residents), the urbanisation of the town and the subsequent creation of access routes to these properties, as well as managing the applications for supplying the town with electricity and running water.
The families were not only given homes, but also a lively environment in all senses of the word. It was vital for them to gain housing, but also to upgrade the surrounding roads that would allow them to access their new homes. This combination provided them with an improved quality of life that was long overdue.
